Leash Walking Clinic
It was all fine when your dog was a tiny puppy but now they don’t seem to know their size and strength? Neighborhood strolls are challenging because they pull so hard you almost trip? Hiking in Acadia might seem out of question since you know you’ll be yanked off the trail after a squirrel?
Know that you’re not alone. This frustration plays out for so many people when they walk their dogs. If you’re interested in helping your dog develop good leash manners that will take the stress out of daily walks and outings, we’ll share everything you need to know and implement to walk calmly on a loose leash. Along with loose-leash walking we will cover leash handling skills, focus games you can take on the road, and relaxing in public spaces. This class will run for 3 weeks and is suitable for both puppies over 4 months and older dogs. This class is offered with rolling admission so you can join us at any time throughout the summer! We currently require dogs to have completed Manners 1 or puppy class with Salty Dogs in order to attend, or by instructor permission.
Reactive Dog Class
Does your dog lunge, bark, growl, pull, or whine when seeing other dogs on leash? Does she get overaroused or frustrated in public? This 6 week class is designed to help your dog feel safe and relax in the presence of other dogs, and teaches you how to handle your dog to easily and safely move around others. The class will start with a humans-only orientation, and then the remaining 5 weeks as a group with dogs.
This class will be held mostly outside. Entrance into class with instructor permission only. If you sign up without first talking to us, your registration will be cancelled. Please call 207-835-5363 to discuss whether this is an appropriate fit for you and your dog. Cost $235

Therapy Dog Prep
Does your dog have an excellent temperament? Do they seem to gravitate toward people who love dogs or who need a pick-me-up? Do they love attention and affection? Then they might be a perfect candidate for therapy dog work! In this class we’ll build the skills necessary for you and your dog to become certified as a therapy dog team and visit facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, colleges, etc. In class, you will learn dog handling skills while exposing your dog to a variety of scenarios such as odd objects, medical equipment and unexpected loud noises. We will create scenarios where the therapy dog team discovers how to handle unexpected surprises. Dogs most be at least one year old to join this class and already have attend a group training class (or by instructor permission) with basic manners including sit, down, come, stay, and loose leash walking. Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs and a variety of people. This class is not appropriate for dogs with fear, anxiety or reactivity issues.
