Therapy Dog Prep

Does your dog have an excellent temperament? Do they seem to gravitate toward people who love dogs or who need a pick-me-up? Do they love attention and affection? Then they might be a perfect candidate for therapy dog work! In this class we’ll build the skills necessary for you and your dog to become certified as a therapy dog team and visit facilities such as nursing homes, hospitals, libraries, colleges, etc. In class, you will learn dog handling skills while exposing your dog to a variety of scenarios such as odd objects, medical equipment and unexpected loud noises. We will create scenarios where the therapy dog team discovers how to handle unexpected surprises. Dogs most be at least one year old to join this class and already have attend a group training class (or by instructor permission) with basic manners including sit, down, come, stay, and loose leash walking. Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs and a variety of people. This class is not appropriate for dogs with fear, anxiety or reactivity issues.

Class meets for five weeks. Cost $140

Reactive Dog Class

Does your dog lunge, bark, growl, pull, or whine when seeing other dogs on leash? Does she get overaroused or frustrated in public? This 6 week class is designed to help your dog feel safe and relax in the presence of other dogs, and teaches you how to handle your dog to easily and safely move around others. The class will start with a humans-only orientation, and then the remaining 5 weeks as a group with dogs.

This class will be held mostly outside. Entrance into class with instructor permission only. Please call 207-835-5363 to discuss whether this is an appropriate fit for you and your dog. Cost $210

Saturday Group Walking Club

This class is offered on a drop-in basis every other Saturday for those who have completed Manners 1 (or by instructor permission). Each week we practice leash walking, attention with distractions, and other obedience skills while in a real world setting. Each class will meet in Blue Hill. Even though it is a drop in class, sign up is required!

We’ve changed the pay scale of this class to make it more accommodating (and affordable) for those who would like to attend throughout the summer, giving students the option to pay for a club rate of $80 for the entire course and attend as many as you’d like (June-October), or $30 per class for those who would like to attend occasionally.
